Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative celebrated its 101st Annual Meeting with a virtual 2021 annual meeting in March.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused the cooperative to utilize virtual means for the second straight year.
President Matt Hoff shared that the cooperative continues to weather the changes required of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cooperative has continued to support all of our customers throughout the challenging times.
The co-op’s two consumer products plants logged record high output through portions of the last year. Similarly, the co-op’s ingredients facilities were the backbone of delivery of one of the cooperative’s priorities: finding a home for all of our member milk. Throughout the pandemic, our members were never asked to dump milk at the farm, a major success compared to our peers in the industry.
Hoff attributed this success to the actions of the Maryland & Virginia Board of Directors and Management Team and each and every employee of the cooperative.
“Thanks to the dedication of our members and employees, we were able to quickly shift how we operate and achieved some significant wins this past year,” Hoff said.
CEO Jay Bryant commented on the cooperative’s dedication to its mission statement “To provide a sustainable cooperative that maximizes value to our farmer owners, employees and customers.”
“Maryland & Virginia has always been a company dedicated to doing what is right for our farmer-owners, customers, and employees,” he said. “I think the market recognizes that and has given us the honor and pleasure of operating in it for 100 years.”
Bryant explained how the cooperative utilizes a series of values to help it in its goal of reaching that mission statement and how the values of the cooperative has helped it weather the recent uncertain circumstances.
Today Maryland & Virginia members produce upwards of 2.3 billion pounds of milk, the co-op has 920 members and the average farm size is 125 cows. The business includes four processing plants and the iconic Maola Local Dairies milk brand.
During the Honors Ceremony, Maryland & Virginia paid tribute to its Producer of the Year and a trio of membership milestones.
The three farms honored for membership milestones included:
- Glade Haven Farm in Walkersville, Maryland
- Grant Martin in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania
- Palmyra Farm in Hagerstown, Maryland
